The Heidelberg Fiasco

Since the majority of our trip was based on Rick Steves' recommendations, I assumed we would not go to Heidelberg, since he says don't bother - too touristy and not worth it. Well, I was wrong in my assumption. When Don and I married, he had a mounted jigsaw puzzle that we hung on the wall. It was Heidelberg. So, Don wanted to see the real thing. One of the 'problems' with Heidelberg Castle is that it is in a university town. That means very busy even without the tourists. Then there was all the road work in town. Don didn't want to actually stop at the castle, just see it and get a picture. Well, we followed the signs to the castle and ended up driving all around it and never saw it! We realized we needed to cross the river to get a view of the castle, which we did. Then it was a matter of trying to find a place to stop and get the picture.... Obviously, we finally did find a spot. The pictures aren't great, but they are what we got. If I ever go back to Heidelberg, it will be in the REAL off season, and I'll take a bus that takes me to the castle. The time and frustration definately were not worth it.

Heidelberg from the car.

The castle with this bridge is the 'money shot', but ours is washed out and taken from a moving car :)

  1. Your trip looks absolutely amazing. How fun! My favorite are those pictures of Don that are at the same place as pictures from his mission. That is really cool. Thanks for sharing.

And PS it was so fun to see "the cousins" last week. Wish you guys would have been able to come :)
